Fire agate

Natural fire agate cabochons.

Fire Agate is one of nature's most astonishing optical achievements — a stone that does not merely reflect light, but traps it, layers it, and releases it as living flame suspended beneath a translucent surface.

Color: Deep brown to rich mahogany at its base, but ignited from within by iridescent layers of gold, amber, scarlet, emerald, and violet that shift and flare with every movement — not a surface shimmer, but a depth of colour that appears to burn from somewhere inside the stone itself.

Energy: A stone of vitality, creative fire, and energetic protection, Fire Agate carries a fierce, grounding warmth that activates the lower chakras and awakens dormant passion and purpose. It is said to create a powerful protective shield around the aura — one that returns negative energy to its source — while simultaneously igniting the bearer's own courage, sensuality, and will to create.

✦ Fire Agate's extraordinary iridescence is caused by Schiller interference — thin layers of iron oxide (limonite or goethite) deposited between layers of chalcedony during formation, each layer refracting light at a slightly different wavelength. The result is a phenomenon identical in physics to the iridescence of a hummingbird's feather or a beetle's wing — structural colour, produced not by pigment but by the geometry of light itself. The finest specimens come from a narrow band of volcanic deposits in Arizona and northern Mexico, and nowhere else on Earth.

This is a stone for those who carry fire in their hands and are finally ready to use it.
