✦ Septaria formed approximately 50–70 million years ago, when volcanic eruptions caused sea creatures to cluster together and become encased in sediment. As the mud dried and contracted over millennia, it cracked in a distinctive septarian pattern — from the Latin septum, meaning partition — and those cracks were slowly filled by mineral-rich groundwater, creating the golden veining that makes each nodule a unique, unrepeatable work of natural art.
