Septarian — also known as Dragon Stone — is one of the most visually dramatic minerals in the natural world. Formed approximately 50 to 70 million years ago from the decomposition of sea creatures whose remains became encased in sediment, each nodule cracked inward over millennia, creating the distinctive geometric patterns that define this stone.

Color: A striking contrast of warm golden-yellow calcite veins, dark brown aragonite, and grey limestone — each piece a unique map of ancient geological time, no two ever identical.

Energy: Septarian is considered a stone of grounding, patience, and communication. It carries the energy of the ancient ocean floor — slow, deep, and enduring. It is said to nurture a calm confidence, support public speaking and self-expression, and connect the wearer to the wisdom of the earth’s long memory.

✦ The name “septarian” comes from the Latin septum, meaning partition — a reference to the internal divisions that give each nodule its characteristic cracked appearance. Found primarily in Madagascar, Utah, and Morocco, septarian is a stone that carries geological history in every line.

To hold a septarian is to hold something that remembers the sea.
